This year’s Gold Coast Cup was not without its fair share of drama. The 45 KM changes race is already one of the toughest, albeit most enjoyable, events in the Australian calendar, so I suppose it’s only to be expected that the biggest races get the most problems.
Less a month from the event, the hosting club cancelled it due to a drop in the number of crews who had entered. Shortly after, they announced it was back on after all, no doubt due to much complaining from people who had already booked flights and accommodation. Then, one final spanner in the works that no one could do anything about was the weather. Only a day before, the course had to completely changed to the more protected waters around Paradise point.
Still, in spite of the 1900km return drive, numerous venue and flight changes and shocking weather, our amazing Master’s men crew finished in 2nd place, adding yet more silverware to an already impressive collection. Well done boys!
