Train outside an OC6
OC1 makes you humble, it shows any weakness you may have but brings about the fastest improvements. Conditioning is done on the OC1.
Pick the right water
Technique work and intervals: paddle on flat water/lake/river. Feel the water and feel the lifts. No assistance from swell or tides if possible.
Get competitive
Time trials on OC1 are a must. Time trials are primary team selection, if times are close then look at team blend and attendance. Time trials are great for individual development, they should be run on a regular basis to track improvements and then use for team selection.
Get paddle fit
How to get paddle fit: paddle the offseason (oc1 or oc6) at least once a week. Paddle fitness comes with time on the water. If you’re thinking about a gym session or a water session do the water session. Make sure you have one recovery day per week – no gym, no water sessions, rest.
