Outrigging is a great way of keeping fit, although you do need a reasonably good base level of fitness to start with.
With marathon races lasting over 2 hours, it’s not just strength, but a good level of cardiovascular fitness that will get you through.
A hard race can easily burn off 1500 calories, so getting liquids and nutrition right before, during and after training or racing is really important.
A proper workout
Paddling works the core, chest, arms, shoulders, back, glutes and legs (at least it does when you’re doing it properly, which takes a while to master), so you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better all-body workout, let alone one you can do in such stunning surroundings.
Many paddlers supplement their paddling fitness with other sports, including cycling, running, CrossFit and swimming, so just because you haven’t paddled before doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be great at it!
With 6 dedicated training sessions a week to choose from covering mornings, evenings and weekends, we make sure everyone has the chance to get out on the water.
